Question: Apply for Adjustment of status or voluntary departure?
A friend of mine is a german citizen and has been in the US illegally for 25 years.
She came on a tourist visa in 1986 and has never left the country. She’s been working on a SSN that was actually given to her when she was still legal by the administration, but it was not valid for employment.Regardless of that, she has been working on that number ever since and has filed her taxes since 1987.Never had any problems, ever. Not with the law nor has she been in any kind of trouble. She’s of good moral character and is a model citizen. She claims to be an american citizen on her work papers and the SS card is a fake, but the number she uses is still the very same she was issued by the SS administration, except that it doesn’t have that “Not valid for employment” stamp on it.

Now here’s the deal: She doesn’t wanna get married (she had an abusive relationship in the past) and she doesn’t have any special skills either. So,the way it looks, she might have to go back to Germany eventually. She’s tried everything from lawyers to friends to help her with this without much success. She has no family out here,no kids and even in Germany, she only has her parents, who have been divorced for nearly 30 years and don’t get along very well.

She’s thinking about self-deporting,but doesn’t know how to go about it,because she’s scared. She owns property out here, has bank accounts, etc. and she’s afraid all her assets could be taken away from her, since she earned it illegally, even though she’s paid all her taxes every year for over 24 years. So,what should she do? Should she apply to adjust her status and take a risk by coming forward and explain herself to a judge, which she claims wouldn’t work, since she doesn’t qualify for anything and she’s afraid that the INS would just put her in removal proceedings anyway or should she just voluntarily leave on her own? The problem with that is,that nobody seems to know how that works, either. Is there someone out there, who can can help us with this sorta thing? She needs a step-by-step advice on both scenarios, but she doesn’t trust these lawyers, either.

So,the bottom line here are 3 things she could do:

1.Come forward now and fight it…(need to know the first step to take)
2.Wait until the laws change and THEN come forward (which is wishful thinking IMO) or
3.Self-deport (how does she go about that, she wants to keep her money, etc.)

Any help would be appreciated.Thank you very much.

she cannot adjust status ..no matter what ..

but she can simply sell all her assets and move back to germany .. nothing complicated at all
Im sure she has relatives there she can ship back anything she want to keep

“She claims to be an american citizen” that statement alone means she would get banned for ever from the US … that is super serious

Question: At a job interview, should I tell the truth why I left a company or should I make up a different story?
I am resigning from my current company because my co-workers and my boss are discriminating against me.
Every night when I leave work, I feel so demoralized, miserable, unappreciated, and discriminated. This is a terrible feeling that can even destroy my self-esteem if I stay at this company any longer. Also, the company is a mess and everyone passes off problematic-work to me just because they know that I am new and I can’t say no. I get blamed for everything, even the boss knows of this situation. The boss, however, is always on the other’s side and never back me up or help me solve any issues. I’ve had it; and, now, I’m looking for another job.

My question is, “Should I tell the new recruiter the truth that the boss doesn’t appreciate me and that she and others at work are discriminating about me?” or “I should make up a story why I left the previous employment?”

If you are a recruiter, please advise me what I should do if they asked me why I’ve left that miserable job.

Blame it on everyone other than yourself.

If anyone calls you out on it, replay “You’re not the boss of me!”, rip off your clothes, and dive through the nearest window, then take off running once you hit the ground.

You may not get the job but perhaps a Hollywood talent scout will notice you and offer you a job.
